Research that leads to new insights and is effectively shared is central to the purpose of any university. Students have the right to be taught by acknowledged experts in their fields, which requires faculty members to operate at the most advanced level appropriate to their discipline and academic level.
Faculty engagement in research directly influences the relevance and quality of teaching and enriches students’ learning experiences. It sharpens the intellectual practice of academics and enables them to become more critically reflective in their profession.
Research is, therefore, crucial to a positive student experience, as faculty engagement with research offers students a model of good practice. The skills associated with academic research, applied by faculty members, are therefore fostered among students. Skills and competencies in research practice, which are essential for many careers, are nurtured and developed.
To this end, IU aspires to be an influential and enterprising university engaged in close collaboration with professions, businesses, industries, government, and the wider community. To support this aspiration, the University has a number of policies and initiatives aimed at encouraging academic staff to engage in research and collaborative activities in existing or emerging fields of strategic relevance and importance to IU, in addition to the delivery of academic teaching.
This activity may include community service, research, the provision of educational or consulting services, partnership building, and a range of other entrepreneurial initiatives.
IU meets the needs of its students by providing a wide range of books at the IU Library. Academic books, reference books, and volumes of textbooks are available for students.
Students may borrow a maximum of 2 books at a time by presenting their ID. Each book should be returned within 2 weeks from the borrowing date. If the borrowed book or books are not returned by the borrowing deadline, a blockage will appear on the student’s system. In the case of an instructor, the librarian will refer the matter to the instructor’s department.
All books at the IU Library are updated on a semester-by-semester basis. Integral to the library services is the provision of reference and research assistance, which is available during most of the hours that the library is open.
Within the limits of its resources and primary commitment, the IU Library constantly works to select, maintain, enhance, promote, and make accessible the information, materials, and research resources necessary to support IU’s mission in teaching, cultural diversity, public service, and lifelong learning, as well as to serve the needs of students and faculty members.
